So that you can enjoy a longlasting and safe performance from your candle in your home, please follow the guidance below. A short summary of this information can also be found under the lid of your candle.

How to care for your candle:

  • On first use, burn your candle for 4 hours to ensure an even melt pool to get your candle off to a great start.
  • Thereafter, I recommend burning your candle for 3-4 hours at a time.
  • Don’t worry about a ring of unmelted wax around the outside edge. This wax will slide down and be melted later.
  • Place your candle on a heat resistant surface or a coaster.
  • Trim the wick to approximately 5mm each time before lighting. Nail clippers are perfect for this and often better than wick trimmers.
  • Dipping the wick or use a candle snuffer is better than blowing the candle out, as it causes less smoking.
  • Your candle has a long neck wick base, so it will self extinguish at the end.

Safety guidelines for your candle:

  • Don’t leave a burning candle alone or burn for longer than 4 hours at a time.
  • Burn the candle out of reach of children and pets.
  • Always leave at least 10cm between burning candles.
  • Don’t burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.
  • Avoid placing candles in a draught or anywhere hot, like a sunny window sill or radiator.
  • Keep the wax pool clear of matches and other debris.

If your candle produces any black smoke, if soot appears on the inside of the container or if the flame looks larger than normal, your wick is probably a bit too long. You can fix this easily by extinguishing your candle, trimming the wick and then relighting.

If the container gets very hot (which can happen when there is less than 30% of wax left) I recommend keeping the wick short and/or burning for shorter periods than 4 hours.

If your wick drifts off centre, gently re-centre it after burning, before your wax sets.

You may notice that the wick produces a carbon ball or ‘mushroom’ sometimes as it burns. This is completely normal when there is a high concentration of fragrance in candles. Simply trim this off before the next burn.
